Our brains need to "teed up" for a successful day at work. What if we all learned these tools with our first job and everyone we worked with did too?
Brain reciprocity to the rescue! Do we need more brain generosity?
I love some garden time so when I was reading a book recently and they spoke of reciprocity with the earth I thought, that is it! Brain reciprocity to the rescue! If you don’t know me, all my thought patterns lead back to neuroscience. I am fascinated and live in wonder of the amazing organ between our ears. We all have one! We might as well learn to compassionately live with it.
In this book, that one of my thoughtful daughters gave me, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, PhD, she was speaking of the concept of supporting the earth as much as the earth feeds and supports us daily. She reviewed that “in the indigenous view a healthy landscape is understood to be whole and generous enough to be able to sustain its partners… land .. as a community of respected nonhuman persons to whom we humans have a responsibility.” She speaks of a renewal of resources with care in a full circle. One example was sweetgrass, the more it was harvested, the more it grew. The harvesting of the grass increased the production, harvesting let more light in so that more grass could grow. This ”reciprocity is a matter of keeping the gift in motion through self-perpetuating cycles of giving and receiving.” Reciprocity can keep the gift in motion, what a great thought, let’s consider this for our brains this week at work.
What could brain reciprocity mean?
How can we be generous to our brains this week so we can have a productive work week?
What could we give our brains this week to be able to boost its focus and concentration?
Do we know what our brains’ strength?
Do we know what brings our brain meaning?
Do we check in with our emotions before and during work as our emotional setting influences our productivity?
Do you have big plans at work this week?
Do you have goals and deadlines to hit this week?
Do you want to get your work done productively to enjoy this summer?
How can we start a cycle in motion for our amazing brains to support them this work week?
Sustainable well being is a goal for ourselves and our teams. How will you be sure to focus on brain generosity? Do you know what the brain is good at, what means something to you and how to support it this week at work? Do you feel you have a responsibility to your amazing brain? There are actions that are non negotiable for a busy brain at work. A cycle of reciprocity, of giving and receiving, may boost your work week. It could mean that if you tee your brain up for a productive week it will then be able to be at its best functional level to help to solve those pesky work challenges and finish the work day more quickly.
How come we don’t learn about this with our first jobs, how to tee up our brains for success at work?
Where can you start your cycle of giving and receiving to your brain this week?
Will you focus on your strengths and be sure you are using them this week?
Will you learn your core values to know what means something to you?
Will you learn your core purpose to help your focus?
Will you be sure you connect with a supportive person as this refuels our brains?
Will you take nanobreaks throughout the workday to assess your emotional status as this influences how fast you get your work done?
Will you pack a fortifying lunch as you know your brain needs lots of “fuel” to get through the work day?
Will you say no to things that are taking your focus and energy that are not meaningful to you?
First things First!
Brain reciprocity to the rescue.
Let the light in for more growth.
What is one thing you may commit to?
How will you get it done?
What barriers will you expect?
How will you give yourself grace when things get off track?
You got this.
Know that your brain is there to help you plan your brain reciprocity, it is special like that. It has awareness of itself!
Start your brain reciprocity today, a cycle of giving and receiving to live fully in your gifts.
First things First!
Brain reciprocity to the rescue.
Let the light in for more growth.
I believe in you.
