Women in Medicine have many challenges, it takes time to keep building new skills to support your team.
Team Leaders have many challenges and no time to address each one.
Coaching can help get to the heart of the matter and get to what is “really going on”.
Coaching takes time to learn and polish your new techniques to listen more and say less.
There is a great book I have been reading, The Coaching Habit by Michael Stanier. He walks us through “go to” coaching questions and how they can work for us to get to know our team members and how we can support them. His instructive advice shares how to stop “fixing” and get to the heart of the matter so our team members grow new skills and hit new levels of performance. The challenges of team leading can be lessened with an informed skilled team.
His book also had me thinking of a research paper in JAMA, the first author was Dr. Alimujiang, looking at 50 and 60 yo and how their level of purpose in life was significantly associated with all cause mortality. People lived longer when they felt they had a purpose or meaning in their lives. Purpose was actually linked to living longer. How wonderful to know that taking time, possibly through coaching, can help one figure out your purpose in life and thereby enhance your life!
What actions have you taken to figure out your own life purpose? It may be worth getting a coach or taking time to sit and think about it. We are all so busy yet this study shows how very important it is to have clarity. Our neurobiologic need is to belong and feel needed in our communities. We have to be sure we are intentional about figuring out what is important to us and find meaning in our current work.
