Hospital Service

What do you cut out while on hospital service?

Hospital service

What are you cutting out lately?

Do you take time to address your known obvious needs when busy?

What is optional?

I am going to make this quick, I have to (get to) go round.

I am on a week of hospital consults this week.

I noticed a pattern this week as I was getting ready to leave the house.. , I am wondering if you have seen the same pattern?

First day, I was enthusiastic, energized and prepped my lunch, water bottle, coffee and off I go. Second day, I did not make time to get hydrated before rounding… lunch was smaller and I still remembered coffee. Each day I had less energy to prepare for a busy day, less of a drive to care for my known and obvious needs, like water, exercise and lunch. I am now on my 6th day and am having this discussion in my head.. forget the healthy lunch just grab something.. Wait I should pack the lunch.. get going.

Today I decided to share this conflict. The conflict between taking our time to meet our unique individual physiologic needs, while on hospital service or busy in clinic or the OR, or getting to work and hoping I have met enough of my physiologic needs to make it through the day?

Do I gamble on this?

How do you handle this work/ physiologic need conflict?

Is it a conflict?

Seems like reality to me… we have physiologic needs, we will not work if we do not meet our unique physiologic needs and anything otherwise is magical thinking.

So today, I did pack my lunch and coffee. I need to go drink some water and off I go to round.

I did not exercise today, yet I will get 10000 steps rounding. I did sit and have coffee with my husband which was nice to start the day.

How are you “balancing” today?

No magical thinking.

Many things are not optional.

I am sharing my thought patterns I noticed this week, of less energy or drive to meet my needs, while on hospital service, as I would assume I am not alone and many of you have this figured out. Let’s share our resources. If you don’t, we are in this together. I am acknowledging those thoughts that we can round and work without our “self care” are not correct.

Here is to you, I hope you have time today to hear your thoughts. Set them straight. Focus on your health and wellbeing, it is not optional.

Don’t gamble on this.

You got this.
