Brain Reciprosity

Gardens can teach us how to support our brain this work week. Let the light in for more growth and support this work week!

Brain reciprocity to the rescue!

Do we need more brain generosity?

What if we all started new brain generosity tactics today for more focus, meaning and productivity?

Our brains need to "tee up" for a successful day at work.
What if we all learned these tools with our first job and everyone we worked with did too?

I love some garden time so when I was reading a book recently and they spoke of reciprocity with the earth I thought, that is it! Brain reciprocity to the rescue for smoother work days! If you don’t know me, all my thought patterns lead back to neuroscience. I am fascinated and live in wonder of the amazing organ between our ears. We all have one! We might as well learn to compassionately live with it.

In this book, that one of my thoughtful daughters gave me, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, PhD, she was speaking of the concept of supporting the earth. She suggested we support the earth as much as the earth feeds and supports us daily. She reviewed that “in the indigenous view a healthy landscape is understood to be whole and generous enough to be able to sustain its partners... to whom we humans have a responsibility.” She speaks of a renewal of resources with care in a full circle. One example was sweetgrass, the more it was harvested, the more it grew. The harvesting of the grass let more light in and therefore more grass could grow. This ”reciprocity is a matter of keeping the gift in motion through self-perpetuating cycles of giving and receiving.” Reciprocity can keep the gift in motion, what a great thought, let’s consider this for our brains this week at work. Let’s be whole and generous with our brains this work week.

What could brain reciprocity mean for us this week at work?
How can we be generous to our brains this week so we can have a productive work week?
What could we give our brains this week to be able to boost its focus and concentration?
Do you know your values?
Do you know your unique strengths?
Do you know what brings meaning to you at work?
Do you know how to support your amazing brain at work this week?
Do you feel you have a responsibility to be generous to your amazing brain?

There are actions that are non negotiable for a busy brain at work. A cycle of reciprocity, of giving and receiving, may boost your work week. It could mean that if you tee your brain up for a productive week it will then be able to be at its best functional level to help to solve those pesky work challenges and finish the work day more quickly. Think of the garden, requiring fertilizer, care and water daily. Our brains need support for a productive work week.

How come we don’t learn about this with our first jobs, how to tee up our brains for success at work?

Where can you start your cycle of brain generosity this week?

Feel free to share this with a new grad, to help guide them on their brain generosity journey at their new job!

How to tee up your brain for a busy day;
Schedule fun, it is a great state for the brain!
Protect your “melon”, do not give your attention to things that do not matter to you. (hint, cell phone)
Fine tune your energy during your work day, take nanobreaks to recharge. (hint, a walk in nature, a micro break to feel grateful)

First things First!
Brain reciprocity to the rescue.
Let the light in for more growth.

Questions to ask yourself this week;
Will you focus on your strengths and be sure you are using them this week?
How will you protect your “melon”?
Where do you take it, is it safe, are the people kind to you?
Who do you hang with, do they help you grow in your skills that are important to you?
Do you feed it, water it and rest that amazing brain of yours?
What is one thing you may commit to this week?_________________
How will you get it done?____________________________________
What barriers will you expect?________________________________
How will you give yourself grace when things get off track?

You got this.

Know that your brain is there to help you plan your brain reciprocity, it is special like that. It has awareness of itself!

Start your brain reciprocity today, a cycle of giving and receiving to live fully in your gifts.

First things First!
Brain reciprocity to the rescue.
Let the light in for more growth.
