Back to school!
What emotion does that bring up for you? Likely if you are a parent of young children there is a mix of emotions. My son and daughter are heading to their senior year, one in high school and one in college and my oldest is headed back to grad school. Lots of students in our family. I have mixed feelings, it means they are leaving the home or are moving on from our more relaxed summer pace. It also means they will have new challenges, this is both exciting and scary for me as a Mom! I am super proud of all my kiddos and actually am so grateful they have the opportunity to learn and serve their communities with their skills.
School means lots of learning and uncomfortable new things like schedules, teachers and fellow students. One thing that I don’t hear enough of is the fact that learners will have lots of emotions and some may be negative as they learn. As adults we also need to remain learners, we need to feel that vulnerability and uncertainty when we are not the experts at something, it does not feel good. We need to listen, support and encourage our learners.
Our brains are the whole reason we can even be learners. Let’s acknowledge that the brain is already super busy managing the whole body. We need to give it extra support when we are learners. Please see my list of tips for the new school year, please let me know your favorite!
Have patience with your learners and your brain when you demand that it learns something new.
You got this!
I believe in you!
The Top 5 Ways to Avoid Exhaustion for the New School Year!
Your brain is your superpower and it is already busy managing your whole body, give it support each day!
Don’t waste your precious time on things that are not important to you, say no thanks when needed. No is a sentence.
Envision your success with your current school year or your project, see it in your “mind’s eye. Then imagine the barriers. Then have a good night's sleep and let your brain figure out how to get around the barriers. You got this!
Brains are made to get more efficient, try new tactics or ways to get things done, adjust as needed. Acknowledge there will be feelings with change, see them and let them pass.
Hang around folks with positive habits, these are “contagious”. ( this is a “lazy” way to get more positive!)
Bonus- Know the brain needs more blood flow after 30 minutes of sitting, get up and march or walk every 30 minutes while working on a project.
Double bonus- know why you want to accomplish your weekly goals, if you know the meaning or value behind them and it is important to you, you are way more likely to accomplish the goals!
Enjoy the tips!
