10 Things Women Docs can learn from Olympic Athletes for Sustainability & Peace of Mind πŸ…

Sometimes Doing Less is MORE! ✨

I have enjoyed the Olympics as there are so many emotions in the life stories, skill building, and training that the athletes have achieved to be in Paris. πŸ‡«πŸ‡· I especially have enjoyed the athletes that are frank about their mental health journey such as Simone Biles and Caeleb Dressel. 🌟 Simone shares her reasons for pulling out of the Olympics last time and her journey of prioritizing her total health, and wow did she amaze us this Olympics. πŸ₯‡ There is also the story of Caeleb Dressel, who has won many Olympic medals in the past, and shares his journey of his β€œcritic” inside his head that kept him from swimming for months. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ Then he started working with a therapist weekly and competed again this Olympics. πŸ₯ˆ The mind is powerful and needs to be nourished. πŸ’ The Olympics are a reminder of the brain’s abilities to lift you and ground you. These stories remind us that professional athletes need to address both their mental and physical health for optimal performance. 🧠πŸ’ͺ Women Docs also work at high-stress levels and physically long hours of training. Docs and athletes share many things, yet Docs can work for multiple decades, whereas athletes tend to have shorter, intense training periods in their lives. We can follow in the footsteps of the athletes as they use the scientific knowledge of the body to boost their performance. As Docs, we can also use our scientific knowledge of the body to nourish it for long-term sustainability and peace of mind. Enjoy this list of ways that Docs can mirror athletes' β€œtraining.” Spoiler alert - pacing yourself and rest are super important. πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ
